Hope and a Hockey Stick: My Story So Far

Sam Quek is a former field hockey player for Team GB and England, who has since retired from the sport and become a TV personality. Having been part of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games gold medal win for the Team GB hockey squad, Sam was appointed MBE for her Services to Hockey. Having spoken out about being sexualised in sport, Sam is now a fantastic choice as a female motivational speaker to empower other women to speak out and to participate in competitive sports.

Initially playing hockey at school, Sam went on to be selected to play for Wirral County at the Merseyside Youth Games. Sam was then selected to play for the GB and England teams under squad number 13, going on to help her team claim silver at the 2013 European Championship, gold at the 2015 European Championship and silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. During her career, Sam was capped over 125 times for GB and England combined, continually demonstrating her raw talent as a hockey player.

When she was 16, Sam made the challenging decision to follow hockey instead of football, a decision that paid off and led to her illustrious hockey career. Since then, Sam has been invited to play in a charity match for Sports Relief and has also become a popular TV personality. She has starred in the likes of For What It’s Worth, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Play to the Whistle, A Question of Sport, The Chase, Pointless Celebrities and Celebrity Masterchef. She has also become a popular TV pundit, presenting The NFL Show, football for Channel 4, field hockey for BT Sport and rugby on Channel 5.

Now booked as a female motivational speaker, Sam shares stories of her successes on pitch. Having formerly spoken out about being sexualised in sport, Sam is passionate about making women feel comfortable and empowered to pursue competitive sport and be in the public eye. Conscious of the early dropout age for girls in sport, Sam Quek is a fantastic female motivational speaker to encourage female participation in sports and inspires others with her tales of Olympic hockey success
