Believe: Boxing, The Olympics and My Life Outside the Ring

Nicola Adams is a former professional boxer who made history throughout her career as a woman and member of the LGBT+ community. The award-winning sportswoman proved herself as a role model both inside and outside of the ring and continues to inspire others through her media and advocacy work. Having broken down barriers to reach Olympic golds, Nicola is the ideal speaker to empower audiences to achieve their potential.

Having started competing aged 13, Nicola quickly made a name for herself on the amateur circuit and secured several GB and European titles. Despite women’s boxing being underfunded and underrepresented, Nicola persevered and made her Olympic debut in 2012 in the first-ever women’s boxing event at the Games. Fearlessly facing her competitors each round Nicola came out on top and become the first female boxer to win an Olympic Gold. Nicola repeated her success in 2016 to win Gold again at the Rio Olympics. After such an impressive amateur career, winning every championship available, Nicola turned professional in 2017, where she was equally triumphant and retired with an undefeated record.

Recognised for her achievements internationally, Nicola became the first woman to receive an award from the Boxing Writers’ Club when she won the Jo Bromley Award for outstanding services to boxing in 2012. Furthermore, Nicola was honoured with an OBE from the Queen and was listed in the BBC’s 100 Women. Not only a pioneer for females in her sport, Nicola is also a proud member of the LGBT community and her advocacy for equal rights has seen her top the DIVA Powerlist and The Independent’s 101 Most Influential LGBT People in Britain.

Making such an impact on the sports industry and beyond has led Nicola to become a sought-after speaker for events. Able to inspire, motivate and educate, Nicola has presented transformative talks to dozens of previous audiences and continues to empower others through her story of trailblazing boxing for women.
