Manizha Talash, known competitively as B-Girl Talash, is an Olympic breakdancer, human rights advocate and fashion designer whose extraordinary life story has inspired women around the world. Rising from adversity to compete on the global stage, she has become a symbol of courage, determination and self-belief. Manizha gained international recognition during the Paris Olympics when she wore a repurposed burqa displaying the message “FREE AFGHAN WOMEN”. Her willingness to stand up for her beliefs despite immense personal risk has established her as a powerful motivational speaker for women seeking to overcome obstacles, embrace their identity and pursue their ambitions without fear.
Growing up in Kabul, Afghanistan, Manizha discovered breakdancing at the age of 17 after seeing a video online. Determined to pursue her newfound passion, she tracked down the dancer featured in the video and joined the Superiors Crew, becoming the only female member among 56 dancers. Her decision to enter a male-dominated sport attracted criticism, public hostility and death threats, yet she remained committed to breaking barriers for women in Afghanistan. The challenges became even more severe when her dance club was targeted by three bombing attempts, two of which resulted in the tragic loss of life, as well as an attempted suicide bombing that ultimately forced the club to close. Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan and the ban on dancing, Manizha fled to Pakistan before relocating to Spain as a refugee. There, she rebuilt her life, continued developing her skills as both a breakdancer and fashion designer, and was eventually scouted for the Olympics, earning the opportunity to compete on the world’s biggest sporting stage.
As her profile grew, Manizha became recognised internationally for her advocacy and resilience. Her story has been featured by leading media organisations including CNN, BBC, The Washington Post, Reuters and Human Rights Watch. Through these platforms, she has shared her experiences of displacement, perseverance and empowerment, highlighting the challenges faced by women whose opportunities and freedoms are restricted. Her journey has resonated with audiences worldwide and positioned her as an influential voice for female empowerment and social progress.
As a female motivational speaker, Manizha delivers a message that is both deeply personal and universally relevant. She speaks candidly about overcoming fear, finding strength in adversity and refusing to allow circumstances to define potential. Her experiences demonstrate the importance of confidence, persistence and self-expression, even when facing overwhelming opposition. Combining her perspectives as an athlete, refugee, creative professional and activist, she inspires women to challenge limitations, pursue their goals and recognise their own power. Her keynote presentations leave audiences feeling empowered to embrace change, overcome setbacks and create opportunities for themselves and others.
