Denise Parnell

Denise Parnell is a pioneering figure in international tennis and one of the most influential women in global sports officiating. As one of only 16 women worldwide to achieve ITF Gold Badge International Tennis Referee status, Denise has forged an exceptional career at the very highest level of professional tennis. Currently serving as The Championships Referee at Wimbledon, she made history as the first female tournament referee in Wimbledon history, cementing her status as a trailblazer in a traditionally male dominated field. She is trusted to oversee one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events while also officiating tournaments for the ATP, WTA, ITF and Lawn Tennis Association. Denise’s journey in tennis began as a talented player, competing in WTA Tour events and representing England internationally on 11 occasions, including four captaincies. She has supervised major international competitions including the Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup, European Team Championships, Olympic Games and the cinch Championships at Queen’s Club. Away from the court, Denise has served on the Executive Committee of the British Women’s Tennis Association, mentored referees for the LTA and works as a consultant for IBM at Wimbledon, leading and training large operational teams responsible for delivering live data and statistics worldwide. Her achievements have earned significant recognition, including multiple Referee of the Year awards from the Association of British Tennis Officials and the prestigious Ad Lucem alumnae award. She has also been celebrated as a female trailblazer in officiating through appearances at events such as The Tennis History Conference.
