History defining, record breaking sailor, Dee Caffari is an undeniable force on the water. From circumnavigating the globe on multiple occasions, to being awarded an MBE for her epic solo voyages, Dee’s career as a sailor has been extraordinary. The remarkable sportswoman now inspires others with her story as an event speaker, discussing the highs and lows of her adventures and the obstacles she has had to overcome as a yachtswoman in a male dominated industry. Making her debut as a sailor in 2004, Dee, a former teacher, was the only female skipper in the Global Challenge, where she gained a passion for being on the sea. Fast forward to 2006 and Dee became the first woman to circumnavigate the world against the prevailing winds setting a world record after 178 days at sea. Since her incredible feat, Dee has gone on to sail both ways around the world solo and non-stop, and complete a total of six voyages all the way round the world, both achievements she is the first and only female to have done so. In 2014 Dee alongside Team SCA set a new speed record for sailing the circumference of Britain and Ireland, in less than five days.
Having seen first-hand the effects of climate change on the oceans, Dee is a passionate environmentalist, and has recently led the first mixed gendered youth team in the Turn the Tide on Plastic race under the United Nations initiative. Outside of sailing, Dee has published her inspiring autobiography, Against the Flow which shares her journey from school teacher to world class sailor.
An accomplished speaker, Dee now uses her international platform to motivate audiences at speaking engagements. Driven to promote greater representation of women in the sport, Dee talks animatedly about the qualities that make successful female leaders.
