Former Paralympic alpine skier, Anna Turney inspired a generation when she took to the sport following an accident that left her paralysed. One of the best sit-skiers the country has every produced, Anna has overcome every hurdle she has faced to enjoy a successful sporting career and subsequently become a motivational speaker. Booked to share her story of achievement after adversity, Anna empowers other women to tackle barriers face on in the pursuit of achieving their goals.
Best known for her success as a skier, Anna was accepted into the British Disabled Ski team in 2007 after taking up monoskiing, a single ski event. From representing her country in the NORAM races to reaching the peak level of competition in 2009 at the IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships, in which she placed forth, Anna’s time on the slopes was impressive. Anna’s career highlight came making her Paralympic debut at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Paralympics where came sixth and later repeated her success at the Sochi Games, a testament to her skill in the sport.
Having always had a passion for winter sports, sit-skiing was a natural choice for Anna after she had an accident. Whilst snowboarding in Japan, Anna suffered injuries which resulted in her being paralysed from the waist down. Despite having her life turned upside down Anna harnessed her mental resilience to transform her future and pursue her passion for the slopes. She has since become an inspiration in sports, as a disabled mother and a motivational speaker.
An experienced speaker, Anna is a popular choice to engage audiences in such topics as resilience, motivation, and determination. Armed with her personal story, Anna inspires individuals and corporate teams, and has previously presented to the likes of Lloyds Bank, Sectra Ltd and Canopuis.
