Sue Campbell is an influential figure in British sport and an inspiring female motivational speaker known for her trailblazing leadership and commitment to driving change. With a career spanning decades, she is a widely respected voice on the power of sport, leadership, and equality. Sue is often invited to speak at major events and conferences due to her unparalleled experience at the highest levels of sport administration and education, as well as her ability to connect with audiences through personal stories of determination, vision, and resilience.
Sue’s journey began in the education sector, where she worked as a PE teacher during the 1970s. Her passion for physical education led her to roles in higher education, including positions at Leicester University and Loughborough University. Her leadership qualities quickly stood out, and by the mid-1980s she had become CEO of the National Coaching Foundation, following a term as CEO of the Youth Sport Trust. In 2000, Sue took on the position of Advisor to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport at the Department for Education and Skills.
Her influence only grew in the years that followed. As Chair of UK Sport from 2003 to 2013, Sue was central to the transformation of British Olympic and Paralympic performance, helping to lay the groundwork for Team GB’s record-breaking success in London 2012. She later became Head, and then Director, of Women’s Football at The Football Association, where she led a major evolution in the visibility and success of the women’s game. Among her many honours, Sue has been recognised with an MBE, CBE, and ultimately a DBE for her services to sport, and was appointed as a life peer in 2008. In 2013, she was named one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the UK by BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.
Sue is hired as a speaker not only for her achievements but also for her ability to inspire audiences with her insights into leadership, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence. Her experiences demonstrate the impact of purpose-driven leadership and the value of inclusivity in sport and beyond. She continues to motivate individuals and organisations to embrace ambition, challenge norms, and lead with courage.
